I got very very nostalgic reading your presentation. Warmed my little CMS heart.

I thought there were so many people already using Drupal when I first downloaded it. I never thought that ~1000 users wasn't really that much! I look back now and wish I had participated more. I didn't think I was “hardcore” enough, and always felt like a no0b. I probably knew as much as the next guy/gal.

My god this presentation brings back memories!!

I think people (including me) forget the types of software running discussion sites like Slashdot at the time had “karma” and you could vote up and vote down discussions which would control what got published to the front page. I also remember http://www.everything2.net/ – where “everything was a node”.

Drupal was really “of it's time”. You've illustrated that well.

I also used Movable Type, and I used Wordpress as well. I had abandoned Drupal because MT had a much easier to use templating system. I attempted then to come back around 4.7 (2004) to Drupal and built a small project on it, then used more WP. But finally, by 5.x, it was getting so much better. Glad I kept my toes in Drupal! It's been great to watch it grow.

WOW! PHP NUKE, that brings back memories. That is exactly where it all started for me.

Right about the time I got sick and tired updating HTML pages for my colleagues :)

I was wondering, since you were here from the beginning (uid 11!), do you still have code from the early versions of drupal that you could publish (or just send on request) ? CVS-now-Git history only takes us back to 3.0, which is already quite fascinating, but I have always wondered about the actual pre-3.0 code.
